Insight Study

As part of NLA’s latest exhibition and insight study London: Design Capital, leading architects and engineers tell us about London’s future as a global centre for design.

London is home to the world’s foremost architects, engineers and urban planners. Its skills in architectural design, engineering, construction, placemaking and consultancy are exported around the globe, from redeveloping European cities to emerging Asian markets. London: Design Capital examines the work currently being carried out by London-based consultancies in global markets, across 65 countries, from masterplans through to individual schemes, and examines London’s future in a post-Brexit world.

London: Design Capital

London: Design Capital is the new NLA exhibition which explores the global reach of London’s built environment industries.

London: Design Capital

This new NLA Insight study proposes four recommendations for the UK Government and Mayor of London to ensure the future resilience of London’s built environment industries and their international profile. These recommendations are supported by an extensive showcase of international projects, including over 220 projects currently being delivered across 65 countries.

London: Design Capital

Today, London’s built environment industries make a vital contribution to the success of ‘brand UK’ and the capital’s profile around the world. London is home to a wealth of globally recognised firms – Arup, Foster + Partners, Grimshaw and Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners, among many others – that play a major role in the shaping of cities worldwide. Its built environment expertise has an enviable reputation for quality, ingenuity and creativity, and, ultimately, successful project delivery.
